Wooden Sunglasses: Polarized Lenses and UV400 Explained
In short: Good wooden sunglasses combine a light natural frame with proper lenses. Look for polarized lenses to cut glare and UV400 protection to block UVA and UVB rays. All Dzukou sunglasses have both, with frames made from wood instead of plastic.
What does UV400 mean?
UV400 means the lenses block ultraviolet light up to a wavelength of 400 nanometres. That covers both UVA and UVB rays, the light that can damage your eyes over time. Dark lenses without UV protection can actually be worse than no sunglasses, because your pupils open wider behind them.
What do polarized lenses do?
Polarized lenses have a filter that blocks the bright, horizontal glare that bounces off water, wet roads, snow and car bonnets. The result is less squinting, sharper contrast and more comfortable vision on the beach, on the bike or behind the wheel. Polarization and UV protection are different things, so check that sunglasses have both.
What is lens category 3?
Sunglass lenses are graded from category 0 to 4 by how much light they let through. Category 3 lenses are the standard choice for bright sun: they let through about 8 to 18 percent of visible light. They are not meant for driving at night. Most Dzukou models use category 3 TAC polarized lenses.
Are wooden sunglasses heavy?
No. Dzukou's wooden frames are lighter than standard plastic sunglasses and comfortable to wear all day. Frames are made from woods such as walnut, ebony and rosewood, bamboo and dual-tone wood, some combined with metal, and some models use FSC-certified wood.
How to choose a frame
- Fit: Dzukou has frames designed for men, for women and unisex styles.
- Coverage: wide frames such as Cabo Dune and Tokyo Slate, or the oversized Osaka Drift, give more coverage.
- Style: choose from classic shapes, aviators (Seville Ray), a half-rim clubmaster (Havana Haze) and a cat-eye (New York Fling).
Every pair comes with a cork case, and you can choose a carbonized bamboo case instead. See all wooden sunglasses.
How to care for wooden sunglasses
- Clean with a soft microfibre cloth, and rinse gently with clean water when needed.
- Dry with a soft cloth and use a mild lens cleaner for deeper cleaning.
- Store them in their case and avoid strong pressure on the frame or lenses.
Common questions
Do wooden sunglasses protect your eyes as well as plastic ones?
Yes, eye protection comes from the lenses, not the frame. Dzukou wooden sunglasses have polarized lenses with UV400 protection.
Are polarized and UV400 the same thing?
No. UV400 blocks harmful UVA and UVB rays. Polarization cuts glare from reflective surfaces. Good sunglasses have both.
How do I clean wooden sunglasses?
Wipe them with a soft microfibre cloth, rinse gently with clean water when needed, dry with a soft cloth and keep them in their case.
